Sample Letter of Explanation for California NCLEX Application

UPDATE Since April 26, 2010: California now requires SSN on NCLEX Application, Renewal, Retake, so they might not extend NCLEX expiration without it. Read the official memo about it here.
California Board of Registered Nursing is one of the state boards that will allow you to take the NCLEX even without PRC license, but you have to attach a Letter of Explanation stating your reasons. It’s on the 2nd page of California NCLEX Applications and Instructions packet, which reads:
Submit a copy of your license or diploma that allows you to practice professional nursing in the country where you were educated. If you do not hold a license, a written explanation is
required…
For your convenience, here’s a sample format of Letter of Explanation to California Board of Nursing:

As indicated in your requirements for application we need to provide you with a photocopy of our license or diploma to practice professional nursing in the country where we were educated. I have passed the Nurse Licensure Exam in the Philippines and my license is still on process, for it would take several months for my license to be issued here.
Attached herewith is my Certificate of Passing to prove that I have taken and passed the Nurse Licensure Exam administered by Philippine Regulation Commission.
Sincerely Yours,

You can state your own reason if it differs from what was given above. Attach the letter with your application, payment, etc. and hope that California Board will accept your reason and make you eligible to take theNCLEX
